Treasures

I have a doll sitting on a shelf on my dresser in my bedroom.
I've shown her to a few people, mostly to have them shrug away her importance in my life.

She was the first surprise I remember under the Christmas tree.
She has always had her own unique smell, and was simply beautiful to me.
She has lost a foot (or a leg, depending on how you look at it).
Despite her nearing the Velveteen Rabbit "real" in my heart...she remains inanimate to the rest of the world.
Sweet Natalie, you will always have a special place in my heart.

Do you have anything that is special from your childhood?
I'd love to hear about it.

Freaky Natalie. Going to jump off the shelf and chase us around the house.

You should post a picture of my "piwwow". For those not in the know, that is childese for pillow.

No toys every became "real" to me, but piwwow came very close to Linus' blanket except I never drug it out to play.

I got a bear for Christmas when I was 2-3 years old. I called him my "Woo-ski" bear. He's more flat than round and is a mustard yellow color--in short, he's pretty ugly. He went everywhere with me! I've never been able to part with him.

I still have my very first teddy bear that was given to me at birth. I have no memories of the thing, but it's here. I do have memories of rub-a-dub dolly (which is the name I've always called her, I have no idea what her real name is!) and I remember buying baby clothes at garage sales for her, piercing her ears (this was when I was much older of course) and trying to comb out that uncombable hair of hers!

I am still in my 'childhood' (At the end of march I will be a tenager), but I have my Rosey. She is a rabbit that I have had for as long as I can remeber. I named her rose because of a cloth rose on her arm (which was torn off when I was resuling with dad) and how she 'liked to zip around'. She now sits on a shelf above my bed and watches me as I sleep.

Your doll is precious! Great photo :)

My teddy bear, Brownie survived. He really was my favorite toy and I actually slept with him up until I got married (go ahead, laugh. I know I'm pathetic). Now my two year old loves and plays with him and it just makes my heart melt!

The best thing about him is that there is a dime sized hole on top of his head and I used to stick candy inside of it and eat it at night in bed. Mmm...teddy bear brains...

I had a teddy bear my Dad gave me when I was about 7 or so. I named him A-1, which everyone assumed was after the steak sauce since he was a dark brown, but it was actually from a mobile home sales lot in Gatlinburg. I lost him on a trip to Albuquerque right before I had Caleb. I called the hotel the next day and they didn't see him in the lost and found, but they were going to talk to the maid. I'm still bummed 8 years later. He was so stuffingless that you could tuck his arms, legs, and head into his body and make a football. Perry saw my sister's bear, Rosa, that was the same bear as A-1 and more in original condition, and couldn't believe that they were the same.

I'm 29 and not only still have my bear, but still sleep with it, & still take it on trips. Funny how something inanimate can give me so much security, especially in the absence of real people!
One of my favorite things about my bear is your kids' reactions to him - playing with him, questioning me about him (is it a boy or a girl? how do you know it's a boy? what's his name? why didn't you name him? We should name him!! --even though no names ever stick) & the best of course: trying to determine what color he is now. definitely not the pristine white, soft and fluffy bear he once was. He's definitely got some Velveteen Rabbit characteristics.
